Tan Kin Lian - Perspectives Verified users in social media platforms
Mr. K Shanmugam is seeking a court order for Tik Tok to disclose the real identity of the person who posted videos that defamed him.

I hope that the law minister will take the next step, and that is, to require all social media platforms to require that users who wish to post contents should be verified, and their identity should be known.

This identity should be verified against the NRIC or mobile number of the user (and the user had already applied using the NRIC). This will ensure that the people who post and shared contents are identified and will be held responsible for creating or spreading defamatory or other unlawful contents, including harassment.

This law will make the social media platforms more reliable, trustworthy and useful. It will stop the spread of harmful contents.
