Tan Kin Lian - Perspectives Make better use of LRT system
We have a well developed LRT system to complement the MRT system in Sengkang, Punggol and Bukit Panjang. But the LRT systems are under-utilised. They probably take less than half of the potential riderships in these towns.

These LRT systems should serve the needs of the residents in these towns for their local transport. There is no need to have bus services to take commuters to the MRT stations or to other places within the towns. The residents should be encouraged to take the LRT trains. 

I went to see the LRT system in Sengkang during peak morning hours. The LRT trains arrive at intervals of 1 minute. But the train has use one or two cabins, when the LRT station is built to accommodate trains with three or more cabins. 

There may be a need for bus services to take the residents from these towns to other towns. These services should not stop at the local bus stops. Instead the residents should take the buses from the interchanges. 

Many of the bus services are under utilised. They add to the cost of our public transport services. We can operate the system more efficiently and reduce the operating cost.
