Tan Kin Lian - Perspectives
Soh Kian Wee suffered injury during his NS reservist training
Soh Kian Wee first suffered an injury to his spine during his full time National Service in 2006. The SAF acknowledged this injury as the first service injury.
On being called up for in-camp training in 2015, he asked for exemption due to his injury. His request was also supported by a government specialist. The SAF medical officer initially certified him to be unfit for the training, but this certification was later changed to "fit for light duty". He attended his training and suffered a further injury which SAF later acknowledged this injury as the second service injury.
Kian Wee gave a brief account of his experience in this video recording.
Kian Wee made a claim for higher compensation under the SAF (Pensions) Regulations on 11 November 2019. The Compensation Board deliberated on various matters. However, the Board notably declined to make a ruling on the matter of negligence by SAF officers. This matter is tied to a further compensation. Kian Wee wished to have a ruling so that he can be fairly compensated, if the ruling is in his favor, or have an explanation, if the ruling is not in his favor.
As the Compensation Board was not willing to give a ruling, after deliberating on this matter for three weeks, Kian Wee is considering taking a legal case for the High Court to make a ruling. The cost of this case is estimated to be more than $150,000. Kian Wee wishes to ask for financial support, through crowd funding, to take this matter to the High Court.
If you wish to support his case, please make a donation, either by "Pay Now to 92966780" or by "funds transfer to 057-58243-0".
Kian Wee expresses his heartfelt gratitude for supporting his case.
