A more competent and accountable government
Many people have the view that democratic election between opposing political parties is a good way to hold a government accountable.

I hold a different opinion.

I find competition between opposing political parties to be counter productive. It does not lead to a better government. Instead, it usually lead to a worse government. Even if the opposing party replaces the previous government, the new government usually performs badly.

What is the alternative?

I prefer the following system:

a) Elect leaders into parliament based on personal merits, and not on political party affiliation
b) Parliament appoint the ministers in government based on personal merits.
c) Parliament appoint the members of the judiciary, anti-corruption and ombudsman organs to monitor the work of the ministers and civil servants.

I believe that this system is more likely to lead to the appointment of competent ministers and that accountability can be improved through the independent organs.

Vote - do you like this system?
