Smart Nation

Scam websites
1. Our smart nation project is in a mess.

2. I have received many messages and notifications from government agencies and private companies to be wary about messages with links that lead me to scam websites. They advise me about how to identify the real websites from the scam websites. I find it difficult to remember the websites that are real.

3. I find it very tiresome. I must have have received several hundreds of these warnings. I probably received more warning messages than real messages.

4. I have now decided to ignore all messages, and to avoid clicking on any notification links. I will not bother to retrieve the messages from the websites of these organizations.

5. Two months ago, I wrote to the minister in charge of the smart nation project to suggest how to deal with this problem. I suggested that the government should approve certain secure portals to receive all business communication. The recipient does not need to click a link to another website to retrieve the business communication.

6. The minister and her staff did not call me to discuss my suggestion. Instead, after a few weeks, her staff replied to me that they have considered the matter and decided to continue with the current practice. They will continue to send messages with links and to educate the recipient to avoid the scam websites.

7. We will continue with the mess in our smart nation. It becomes messier as time goes by.
